I have now finished my 48 day assignment. I have really enjoyed doing this everyday blog as it has really encouraged me to use my camera and given me confidence with my work.
At the beginning i set my self a goal that i wanted to be able to see improvement in my photographs throughout the blog, which i personally think has been successful. I feel that at the beginning my mind was very restricted to only seeing certain things and i was scared at first to experiment with different genre's, such as portraiture and photographing people, but through the blog i can see how this has changed.
I have really enjoyed trying out lots of different techniques such as using manual focus as this was something i had never used before.
I think my blog shows a variety of different genre's and feel encouraged to carry on experimenting with them all especially still life.
PH1003- "The everyday, Every day"- Assignment 1 - Laura Bland
This 48 day blog is all about my everyday life. Everyday I am going to add a picture that shows this and i will evaluate my photographs weekly. Some weeks there will be set themes for my photographs. I really want to use this blog to not only include my everyday photographs but to show some experimental work which will encourage my work to develop. I hope by the end of this blog i will see improvement in my photographs when comparing the beginning to the end.

Day 48 13/03/13
"Birthday candles"
This is the last picture i have taken for the theme of Surprise and looking back at the photographs i think i have photographed this theme well.
The definition of the word Surprise means;
surprise
1. To encounter suddenly or unexpectedly; take or catch unawares.
2. To attack or capture suddenly and without warning.
3. To cause to feel wonder, astonishment, or amazement, as at something unanticipated.
4.
a. To cause (someone) to do or say something unintended.
b. To elicit or detect through surprise.
n.
One of the Photographs i took was taken of my dad showing the emotion of Surprise. I really like this photograph and i think it really fits the definition of the theme.
Even though to feel surprised is more of an emotion felt thing and commonly this is shown on people, i wanted to try and explore how i could could photograph the theme but not necessarily taking pictures of people.
The picture above is really bright and colourful and i really love this about this photograph. This still life photograph shows it is possible to photograph Surprise as it isn't an emotion of surprise but it still relates. Surprise is often related to Surprise birthday parties which is why i took a photograph of birthday candles. Setting up my own photographs and playing around with the objects, such as lighting the candles or not lighting the candles, was something i really enjoyed and after experimenting with still life i think it could be a genre i would quite enjoy to be creative with.
Setting up my own still life work reminded me of a photographer named Andy Rudak. Not all of his photography work is still life but the still life work he does is set up in a certain way.
His work is really creative and it has inspired me to do more. I really like the picture below because of how brightly lit the photograph is. It carries a sense of humour and is unique.
1. The act of surprising or the condition of being surprised.
2. Something, such as an unexpected encounter, event, or gift, that surprises.

Day 45 10/03/13
"She was surprised to get lovely flowers on Mothers day"
So far for this week the blog theme is "Surprise". I am finding this theme quite hard as i feel unsure on how to capture it. For this theme at the moment i have tried to capture things where i have been surprised and when people i know have been surprised.
The first photograph for this theme was taken when experimenting something else for a different project. The genre of that photograph i would say fits under the topic of still life. The photograph doesn't capture an emotion of surprise, which is how a lot of people relate to surprise, but i thought that this photograph is a nice way of starting off the theme for this week.
